The thyroid enigma

Some of the major areas where the thyroid hormones influence their power are growth, heat and production and infertility. They help in regulating the immune system and act as the regulator for immune response system on our intestines. They also influence actions of other hormones and drugs.

Hypothyroidism is something that occurs in case the thyroid hormones secretion is not up to the required level. This results in reduced immunity to cold, fluctuation in weight, dry skin and at times even hair loss. Hypothyroidism is progressive in nature and in most cases it is irreversible. It occurs when the thyroid gland produces too much of hormones – above the necessary and required levels. It occurs to the people in the age group 20-40, often starting during period of pregnancy of extreme stress or depression.

The treatment consists of replacing the thyroid hormones and is usually quite successful allowing its patients to fully leave a normal life.
